Your wedding dress is one of the most important decisions of your life. It can be overwhelming to choose from so many options, and getting started may seem daunting! Almost everyone has a tip or two about what you need to know before you purchase your wedding dress. Here’s a list of things that we find most brides wish they knew before bridal shopping:
|
Yes, you need an appointment!
This isn’t just ANY shopping trip! Contrary to shopping for street clothes, you can’t simply mosey into our store (or really any bridal boutique, for that matter) and expect to try on gowns. Call ahead or book your appointment online at least a week out, though the more in advance, the better!
Appointments can fly by, so take advantage of your time
Your appointment only lasts 1.5 hours. While it may seem like a lot of time, it goes quickly - especially if you want to try on the dress more than once or buy it! During this time period, you’ll be working with an expert bridal stylist who will help guide you through the process. Try on as many gowns as you can and really enjoy the process of having a professional help you! We want to give you only the best experience.
Put on comfortable shoes
Wear comfortable shoes while shopping for your wedding dress, and put your wedding day heels in a carry bag. If you want to wear a heel, choose one that is low, chunky, or even flat. However, your wedding day shoes should be worn to all alterations appointments.
When choosing your wedding dress, keep an open mind
It's not always easy to find your dream dress. There are times when a style doesn't work for you, when timing doesn't work, and when budget considerations don't work. It's important to keep an open mind so you can choose a dress that makes you happy. Even if you can't get the exact dress you envisioned, you and your bridal consultant can weigh the options and pick something that pleases you!
Buy the dress YOU truly love
Your party members will all have an opinion about what dress you should buy. After all, you'll be the one wearing the dress for many hours on your wedding day. It's only you who can pick the dress that makes you feel beautiful and confident on your wedding day. It's up to you to decide. The bridal shop visit will be easier if you bring a small group!
Check the fit of the dress
Spending time on alterations is important, and ensuring the dress fits perfectly will take time. Even alterations can't fix everything, and that includes your wedding dress's sleeves. Consider your arm movement before purchasing a dress with sleeves.
Keep the positive self-talk in mind
When you’re trying on so many gowns, let’s be honest - there’s going to be a lot of naked time. It might be more than what you’re used to when trying on clothes, especially if you have one of our bridal consultants help you into a gown (which is inevitable!). Especially when you try on dresses that cut you in ways you don't like, keep your negative self-criticism at bay. It’s just not helpful, and you deserve a better experience than that! We encourage you to wear undergarments you feel confident in and even consider wearing a strapless bra and Spanx for extra support! Also, bridal gowns are sized kind of strangely. So please don’t be hard on yourself if your gown is several sizes larger than what you typically wear! All that matters is you find the gown that makes you feel like the queen you are.
Shopping for a wedding dress should be easier if you follow these tips. Are you still searching for the perfect wedding dress? Browse our gowns online and book your appointment to let our team at Créme Couture help you find “the one!”
